Let’s try this again. A few weeks ago, I compared the new Polaroid Flip with the Polaroid I-2 and got distracted by the quirks and unevenness of Polaroid film. This episode is much more true to Double Negative form: A completely technically unsatisfying and boringly philosophical look at what these cameras are actually for, and how we should look at cameras in relation to our photography in the first place.

i tend to risk cheaper stuff more. The Flip is streamlined, but for the time being it has an app for more camera controls, which is something i really love about it. And because of it's design it's bag friendly. I'd probably baby the i2 too much. Would love one some day.
The title of this video leads me to ask the most important question… Which Polaroid would Zack Snyder use?
Really well done video. I really enjoyed you getting into the details
MARTHAAAAAA
Merci pour cette présentation. En argentique je pratiquais le plus souvent avec la priorité ouverture. Donc, cet appareil va me satisfaire…
3:27 Jesus Christ this guy gets it
If Instax would make Polaroid format film, I'd be all over it, "Lex Luthor" or not. 😉 I have Instax cameras and I recently got the Polaroid Flip. The Instax photos have, in my opinion anyway, better sharpness and color than the Polaroid photos, which always seem to look like they were taken with a soft focus, and either seem too dark or too light. I know the Flip even has a small exposure setting for +/- 0.5 on the camera (supposedly more manual settings in the phone app, but that kinda defeats the point-and-shoot nature), but it's hard to know if you'll need it until the picture develops…15 minutes later. Instax at least develops within two minutes. So I really do wish Polaroid could get their film in order or something. I like the bigger instant photos, but the film pricing vs. the quality of images is a tough trade off.
Nah about the instax. The colors blow away polaroids anyday. More photos per pack and way cheaper than a pack of polaroid.
Well said! Always interesting to see the push/pull between the gear and specs and the final outcome and the art of it.
It's really interesting to me that you bring this up because I feel like I've fallen into this weird middle where going to a more complicated camera would be too much for my skill and going down feels lazy… But I also feel like I'm stagnating. And honestly I think it is just that I'm not enjoying the process right now. If the photos suck but I enjoyed taking them then I don't mind but if I'm not enjoying the process of taking the images it doesn't matter how good they are
9:41 That was some shade on fujifilm, wow, why the hate?
Photographers who are serious artists may disagree with your premise. I mean ones who study the history and great masters of the art, are aiming at true innovations in what photos and photography can be as art, who publish their work widely, and aim to have what they create stand the test of time. I mean ones who blow your head and world wide open, introduce fresh vision. I’m sure their audiences are very interested in what camera Cartier or Sherman or Adams or Liebovitz or Narahara or Misrach use/used, and those in the audience who are also art photographers will certainly be extremely interested. But I don’t think it would the central interest.
This is in no way a dis on amateur or commercial photographers. Absolute power to them. But I just want to put in a word for another kind of photographer. Many YouTube influencers totally overlook and/or seem to have a narrow sense of what photography really can be. It’s good to acknowledge to learners that a variety of options are available to them. I don’t think this “art approach” should be so overlooked.
BTW, I really enjoy your channel 😁
Love the idea of starting simple, even just point and shoot. Yeah.
Sorry, but still want to see a real comparison without the variables of the other video. Use the SAME packs of film on both cameras. Take a shot, take out the pack (losing one piece of film), put it in the other camera then take the same shot and THEN compare.
I really love your videos, I bought a Flip for my daughter's weeding which will be next December. She wants to have photos to give them to her friends @ wedding date. I'm still trying to figure out how to get more vivid photos indoors or avoid having way to bright's outdoors. Sometimes the auto option does not work like I want to. We have managed to get very cool photos, which bring me back to the 80s when my parents had first a Kodak Instant (gone after the lawsuit) and the Polaroids after,
Instax is lex Luther? Come on man! LOL
Great vid dude! You leveled up big time, great edit! I actually went in a weird direction and got a second Flip, so I have color and BW on hand at all times🤙🏻🏴☠️
flip 🧡
I love my flip it’s fun just point and shot not too much thought. I enjoy the freedom of it but I still would love a 1-2 to learn more about manual control
I worked extensively with flash photography as a professional, and it became second nature. However, on my days off, I stayed away from flash photography like the plague due to flash photography and Studio burnout. The one exception was my old Polaroid Spectra. I let the flash do what it wanted to do and had a lot of fun in the process. If the shot didn't come out great, I really didn't care; it was my day off. Just toss in another 10-pack. So in respect, I'll take the Flip over the I-2. Flip = K.I.S.S. That's what I need in my life moving forward.
I’m the opposite, the Flip is the most fun instant camera I’ve ever used. I’ve used over $300 in film since it came out.
great advice about going simpler
I've had a polaroid go for a year now, and I want to get myself a big boy camera. Do you think sx-70 will be a good choice?
Hello!!! Happy to be First again!!!!
