1. My experience with the flip has been mediocre at best. It seems like it focuses on whatever objects it detects is closest to it regardless of how you frame your photo. I keep finding objects that are on the side of the frame are often what the camera focuses on, there fore my main objects are often blurry and out of focus

2. You cannot find a Polaroid 660 and working condition for less than 50 bucks. That’s super rare.

3. Is it me or when I insert film into thd polaroid camera sometimes there is those light leak on the top corner

4. Garbage in = garbage out. The film is so poor imo that there is no point having a expensive camera ! In fact i have just sold my MiNT slr670s as was just not using it due to the very hit and miss results.

   If people still want to get into polaroid , make sure the camera has 70 in the name, 670Af, sx-70 or MiNT slr 670s

5. Agree on this. I haven't gotten a good image yet with my Flip — most look overexposed and super soft. I went and bought a 660 and almost all have been great. Though, wish I saw this first because I definitely paid over $50

9. I mean Polaroid offering a sonar focus camera that isn’t a SLR seems like a combination for disaster. My SX70 sonar misses focus and at least I can see when it misses so I don’t waste film. So I can assume the Flip also misses focus as well, but you won’t know till you’ve wasted a shot.

17. hi Chris! Great review, thank you. What I get from this video is:

    1- Polaroid Quality Control seems needs improvement, as in this comment section I read some people to have exactly same issues as yours and others say their Flip doesn't.
    2- As apparently any brand new Flip could be good or bad, then so far Sun 660 is way better and waaay cheaper.

    Kindly Questions for Chris:

    A- Would you do a follow up video with a different Flip camera? Also it could help to reinforce that Polaroid QC is still not there.
    B- After this video, where do you think falls one of your favorites: the OneStep2 Stranger Things edition? Better than both the Sun 660 and Flip? Between the 2? etc?

18. I bought the Polaroid I-2 this year and have shot around 14 packs already. I've noticed I'm getting better results if I do -2/3 or -1 when I'm outside in harsh and bright light and constantly overexposed shots if I leave the exposure compensation as is. However, if it's cloudy outside or I'm shooting at sunset, 0 compensation works well. I've also heard that the Flip should be more accurate overall with exposure than all modern Polaroids.

19. My Polaroid flip only made overexposed Polaroids. No matter what i did. After the update it did ok but not great for the hype this camera is getting. I got rid of it and got a camera from Jake. That one is freaking awesome!

21. This is really more advertisement for the „Sun 660“ which is infamously known to be one of the best Polaroid 600 box cameras ever made.

22. I think the most differences derive from the Polaroid films. Their properties vary from pack to pack, so comparisons are difficult. Some weeks ago I found a new effect: Beautiful shots of blooming rapeseed fields taken with my new Polaroid Flip darkend and changed colours a bit after some days without beeing exposed to light or heat or beeing packed densly. I'm happy to have them "scanned" with my smartphone at their best appearance. The film pack was one year old and stored in refrigerator, lying flat. Perhaps the modern Polaroid cameras don't have to be better, because the films are so unpredictable? The older cameras surely are easier to use, because their functions are more or less selfexplaining. If I want to be rather sure of the results I use Fuji Instax. Polaroid is more adventurous…

23. Came to this to see if the flip was worth upgrading to from a now+ gen2 but I think I might upgrade to the lomo instead😂

    It really pains me, I really want to like Polaroid, but it's honestly embarrassing at this point
    The chemistry is one thing, but man they are failing at achieving comparable results to 40 year old cameras?

24. Chris, you can’t really compare two shots of the same sign taken from opposite angles 😂 you know one side is in the shadow, and the other in direct sunlight 😁

25. So I haven't had the exposure issues you've had; my Flip has exposed pretty well for me (though I'm not comparing it to anything in particular side-by-side). However, I'm actually selling it because of that wide sonar spray, which leads to a focus on whatever is closest even if it's at the edge of the shot. My SX-70 Sonar reliably focuses on what's center of the shot (same sonar module as the Sun 660), but the Flip has proved essentially useless as an indoor camera because any chair, table, wall, will steal the focus from the people I'm usually aiming at indoors. I plan on getting me a cheap Sun 660 for indoor shots and sticking with my SX-70 for anything outdoors.

26. Maybe i misheard, but didn't you say at the beginning you were under exposing the flip .5? I find i don't have to make any adjustments with my flip. It's just banger after banger. By far the most consistent Polaroid i own without having to fiddle with exposure. Surprisingly, the next best imo is the One 600 Executive. It's a highly underrated camera.

27. I would be interested in another test and this time with Portraits. Because I think you’re on to something with landscape photos – I just haven’t gotten a ton of great landscape shots with the Flip, but would love to see an indoor and outdoor test head to head. Most of my best photos are from 5 feet and in.

28. I love my flip and got some great photos do fancy a lomo wide but just find the square format more pleasing 🤷‍♀️

29. Something I recently noticed about the flip it sometimes it turns out when it's on and goes into sleep mode. Instead of closing the flip cover and opening it again and I found you can ahalf press the shutter button, and it will wake it up.

30. I have to agree with you on this. I recently bought the Flip. I've used Instax Mini and Instax Square for years. I decided I wanted bigger pictures. I considered the Instax 400, but apparently it's been discontinued. So I decided to give the new Polaroid a try. My photos have all been blown out and way overexposed. I also don't necessarily like how all the photos end up with a "soft focus" look to them. I have been taking pictures with the Polaroid Flip with brand new film, and with my Instax cameras with film expired by many years…and the Instax photos look better to me. They are sharper, better contrast and colors, and better exposure.

    That said, this was just doing "point and shoot" photography. The Flip does have a wide range of settings — but only through the phone app. Which is annoying, but I am going to try playing with the app to see if I can get some shots that aren't so blown out, and that have a more pleasing look. But I agree, a bulk of the blame lies in the film. I also don't understand how the Instax can develop pictures five times faster than the Polaroid film….if only we could get Fujifilm to make I-Type compatible film for us. 🙂

33. Just been on holiday with the flip and totally had the flash button issue. Thought it was just me.,

34. I found a Polaroid "Lightmixer AF660" on Ebay for 20€ in pristine condition. It's identical to your Sun 660 but I guess due to the lesser known name it's not as sought after. It delivers by far the best results compared to my One + Gen 1 or my OneStep 2. I would just wish Polaroid would get the hang of the film chemistry in general because any of my Instax cameras still deliver far more predictable and reliable results for pretty much half the price. It's extremely frustrating paying 20€ for a 600 cartridge and then 6 out of 8 pictures are a dud because the chemicals didn't spread.

35. 4:05 I am team darkened here. I am thankful to have an Instax that allows me to "darken" and "brighten." But it is really hard make sense of it or to anticipate what effect it will truly have. I guess in Instant Photography overall this isn't easy.

37. The best thing about the Sun 660 is you can calibrate it to match the film batches very easily.

I own an old Instax 100 Wide camera, a Lomo Instant Square Glass and a Polaroid 600AF that I converted to I-type thanks to external battery and this video makes me wish Instax would release a square format in same or close size to the Polaroid one. Wide is nice but I like the framing of those square pictures. My Instax Square photos are much more consitent and reliable than my polaroid one but they look tiny in comparison.

    I like the fact that I can see it on a single-lens reflex camera and adjust it by feel.
    I felt that the auto mode of the Polaroid flip was a little too blurry, so….(、._. )、

42. I've been following the Flip reviews on YT and the Polaroid Reddit and the field of results is wiiiidddeee. 🙃 I think ultimately the film holds a lot of the blame for both ends of the spectrum, and I hope they continue improving the formula.

43. i wont be buying it to replace my 660s any time soon but I'll keep a pulse on the flip because it can be refined via software and the exposures and be tweaked

44. I think you have a very defective flip. This is nothing like the results I've gotten after putting almost $400 dollars of polaroid film through it in Vegas and Florida.
