Ever review one of those small instant printers? Paired w/conventional digital camera, might be worth doing – compare to Polaroid, e.g. I had an old Polaroid long ago – too much waste and awkward usage. Tripod base needs care, as you pointed out — might be easy to strip the plastic threads.
Yes, those camera straps can be fussy😊. I like to attach a small d-ring to the strap bar on a camera or such device and then attach a small carabiner. Strap connects to the carabiner (small key holder from hardware store.) You get the idea.
A smartphone feed to your video rig would be great. I use a Samsung phone with the Flow app on a Windows laptop; the phone screen shows on desktop and is controlled by the PC/PC mouse, as well. Don't know if there is something similar for iOS.
