Polaroid Flip – Review and walkthrough of Polaroid’s newest camera

Polaroid

Polaroid has flipped the switch on us again, and introduced a brand new camera to their lineup that stands alone as one of the most capable ever made. With the revival of sonar autofocus and the clamshell flip up design, there is much to discuss, as I weigh in my experience using this very different release from Polaroid.

  1. It should be mentioned by someone that the app doesn't allow for full manual exposure. Only certain shutter speeds are available to certain apertures. I brought it back to the store immediately because of that. It's aperture or shutter priority modes, at best, and considering the exposure latitude of the film, that sucks.

  2. Just got my new flip camera. First picture disappointed, one third of the center is light and a third of each side is darker?? I had an sx70 land camera years ago and it was so easy and fun to use, always took good pictures, I want to experience that again. I'm guessing this will take some time and be more complicated than the old camera. Wish me good luck, I am excited. Thank you for a good video.

  3. I have the Polaroid 636 CloseUp. So I was familiar with the design. I love that my oldschool Polaroid finally got a modern adaption. I love the flip, it protects the lense, it gives me the Polaroid feeling. That they brought that back is awesome! I love this Polaroid.

  4. Honestly they should sell these cameras for 50$ at the most . One exposure is $1.32 – this is how they make all their money. My girlfriend will spend $600+ trying to get the "right look" for a portrait.

  5. How did you expose those party indoor portrait photos that are well lit including a bit of background, pushed half stop? I can’t seem to replicate those, my shots are too dark with the flash. This is the video that made me decide flip vs i-2.

  6. It could just be a switch that turns off the sonar and defaults to a fixed focus distance, same for enabling and disabling the flash. digging in your pocket for an app is no fun. but as many fave said – that battery and back being removable with a single screw and name-dropping ifixit is awesome. I think future iterations will be even better

  7. You can have the best espresso machine but if you don't have a good grinder it will never make good coffee. These cameras would be good if we had real Polaroid film. Hard to believe after all this time, efforts and expense the film chemistry and pigments were never reproduced.

  8. All I want is the love child of the Polaroid camera design team and the Instax film reliability team. 😫

The only thing keeping me from polaroid is their film. Jeez this camera is gorgeous

  9. Your intro showed you taking a picture of your Beautiful Dog. Did she react? I'm old enough to remember the very first TV remotes that used ultrasonics before IR became the norm. It drove our dog and cat absolutely crazy 😲🤪 obviously within their hearing range

  10. I followed your channel when you barely had a few videos since that was the same time I wanted to get back into Polaroid and instant photography, now I have too many actually haha.

  11. Ignoring price, is this the Polaroid camera you would recommend to anyone not considering the I-2? I still don’t know what the differences are with the different Now cameras, is this one better than those? (More features, better lens?)

  12. Polaroid Community: I just purchased my first Polaroid camera, the Polaroid Flip. Yeah!!! FYI, I connected my camera with the Polaroid app and noticed that there was a firmware update. The newest Flip update appears to be (version 1.0.5). I did the update and everything seems fine, no issues before, either. My curiosity sent me to the web to find out what the update entailed. No mention anywhere of what was addressed in the newest 1.0.5 release. Does anybody have any information? Thank you.

  13. I’ve owned my Flip and sold my I-2 for 2 weeks now! Can’t say I’m missing my I-2.

While the I-2 had more options, I find that I rarely use those modes anyways and end up doing Auto Mode anyways. The Flip is the best of both worlds for people wanting sharp looking Polaroids while being easier to use. I do miss that amazing viewfinder on the I-2 tho!

  14. How do the lenses work on the Impulse AF? Like this, does it have multiple lenses it swaps out? I bought the Impulse in 2020 after I watched your original video. 🙂
