Even your “bad” Polaroids aren’t necessarily bad, so become a Polaroid hoarder and keep all your shots no matter what.

Thanks for watching!

Ive been loving your videos, im a casual polaroid shooter myself but i recently just got the flip and have been binge watching your videos!
Ok, just spent $94 on a new box and stored correctly with a newish born on date at only 6 months old however, vertical streak down almost every photo. Warranty submitted!
I have a great image of Devils Tower somewhere
Bad to good ratio is like 50/1
Good video. I like your positivity in the face of Polaroid fickleness ( possibly not a word). It's just sooo expensive to take too many negative hits. I've figured out cyanotypes are the most cost effective way of getting a tangible print in your hand. As I'm not uber keen on the blue, I tone in coffee and get a really pleasing sepia type black and white. The lovely papers available are a bonus and once you have your negative, you can just print as much as you like, the cost of the cyanotype chemicals are cheap and non toxic. It's not a Polaroid but it has a similar organic vibe.
😂 “That’s the nature of this “. I invested in a McGyvred Polaroid back for my RB67. I have shot color and black and white. Of course we approach this with intention but that is not necessarily the nature of this beast. You are entirely correct. Play with intention but be open to where you end up!
I've been using the polaroid lab which sometimes feels like I'm cheating.. but it's a great way to save on money because you can get the photo you want on digital and transform into polaroid, without having to take a million polaroids. Sometimes they come out looking too saturated/crisp but I mostly love the results. I still love my polaroid I-2 though. I hope someone starts to make fp100c peel apart film again, I miss shooting on that!
I’m a climbing arborist for a living whose hobby is mainly analog photography. I’ve gotta tell ya there’s really no feeling I’ve felt comparable to being up in the tree canopy swaying with the trees. Sometimes the opportunity arises I can bring a camera up and they’re cool photos. But even if they’re not it’s a good reminder of how high the highs (no pun intended) of my work are. Excellent work and food for thought this video.
I have started with Polaroids over the last 6 months. I have a SX-70 Sonar Land camera so its quite old but still works. The failed Polaroids are disappointing, but my view is that you have to have ownership of them as they chart your progress to better picture taking. So the discarded (failed) photos should be looked after even if they have no real merit.I'm getting my camera modified so that I can start using I-Type Color film as I can no longer get the SX-70 Color film. Polaroid seem to have discontinued it.
I plan close to 0% of my shots. I just pull out the camera, take a shot, and walk away lol.
My Polaroids always end up different from what I have in mind. I usually prepare a scene and use props to create self portraits with controlled light. Most of the time, I use mirrors so I can more or less see what the camera is seeing. I end up with many bad shots, but usually the best ones are surprises, results of color shifts and a lack of detail that I can use in my favor to create strange, sometimes surreal images.
I use Polaroids because of their imperfections, and my goal is to learn how to work with them rather than against them. I embrace the flaws: sometimes my face disappears in reflections, sometimes my hands look unreal, and I genuinely enjoy the process. There is beauty and soul in imperfection.
I'd like the double negative video clips you did very cool
If you want accurate photos that match a vision – shoot digital. The joy of any analog photography is there is an uncontrollable element – and with Polaroid that is exaggerated – you either like it or you don’t
That blank white Polaroid shot is totally ZEN. It's nothing, yet everything!
Even though I’ve been watching your channel for a while now, I’ve just started seriously taking Polaroid shots. got a scanner for Christmas but none of the shots I’ve taken so far are worthy of scanning. I’ll know when I have a good one. I know it’s a long journey and an expensive one, but I just find it so fascinating! thanks for the encouragement!
Excellent points. My personal view is that while everyone has there own budget (monetarily or time), waiting to use it for only that “perfect” moment never helps.
When’s the perfect start to workout out? How about going to your dream trip locations? Starting that writing you wanted to? There’s always an excuse to avoid it and all that gets you is nothing.
Start small, start big. Either way get to it haha. Great vid as always Will
Thanks for the video Will!
