Instant News! – Polaroid Now Gen 3 and TTArtisans Instax Mini + Updates on the SX-70R boards!

Polaroid

Welcome to another episode of Instant News – a new? series where I will dive into what’s happening in the world of instant cameras whenever I need relatively low effort content because I’m super busy!

In todays video I discuss the launch of two new instant cameras – the TTArtisans Instax Mini folder and the Polaroid Now Gen 3!

I discuss the general vibes in the community, and offer some opinions as a technician.

  1. ? build quality, reliability, value for money, bellows, shutter (sunlight f-32 at 1/250 for ISO 800 film without need to buy ND filters ? Unknowns for me, at this time.

  2. Glad to know about the risk of shorting between the SX-70R chip legs. Received one a while ago and haven't got down to installing it yet, I'll definitely be going over it before i install it

  3. Fujifilm have a stable film emulsion in Instax which is why they're happy having third-party companies making Instax cameras. "Polaroid" are progressively getting worse…

Also found out that my I-2 has a broken light meter (it overexposes even when metering externally and inputting the settings in manual mode). Not happy about a £600 camera shipping with an actual manufacturing defect.

  4. It still amazes me that nobody is making a decent Instax Wide camera that has flash, decent f/stop and some AF, and better exposure times, and yet the cameras from the 1960's did it so well with the Polaroids and Fuji FP100/FP3000 films, like wtf ?
All new cameras are so expensive for a plastic box that is the same as the old one.

  5. The 203T is pretty unique because the 203 was a 120 camera produced by several factories during the early 60s under the Seagull brand. Seems almost none of the shutter/aperture mechanics have been touched at all, it's been cloned from the 203. It's just the stuff behind the bellows (the easy stuff to change) that's been redesigned. This probably explains why it's so low-speed when it was designed for 50-250 speed film and not the 800 of Instax.

  6. PLEASE don't refer to JustAnotherChris as a reference for how good or bad cameras are. The guy seems to have NO CLUE how to shoot instant film manually, and he has been complaining about the RF70 for a while now instead of sending it over to MiNT to get it fixed! He said the 500AF was basically an Instax 300 with an autofocus in one of his videos! The guy has no idea what he is talking about! 😂

  7. I won’t buy a new polaroid camera until they make the battery user-replaceable. Planned obsolescence is a disgusting practice and goes completely against one of the core reasons why film cameras in general are so enjoyable. I want to own my camera – not subscribe to buying a new one every four years.

  8. Hi. Inspired by your channel I bought this PCB. I will install it tomorrow, but I have 2 questions.
    1. Do I need to do some calibration after installation or will everything work fine?
    2. Do I also need to replace the round glass that comes with the kit, covering the light meter?
have a nice day and keep going with your channel 🙂

  9. I tend to think your thoughts about battery being user replaceable is a bit overblown, I have a mint slr670s I type and I don't want to or need to be able to replace the battery super easily, i'm happy to have a camera that has a replaceable battery. I would call the battery in the SLR670s i-type replaceable, either by myself and a screwdriver or by a technician. HOWEVER, I think that the battery in the new polaroid cameras is such an obscene procedure that I would not call it replaceable at all. That much to get into the camera to replace the battery is insane.

  10. Pixii in France are making new rangefinder digital cameras that take M mount lenses. They started a few years ago with APS-C sensors and recently released a full frame sensor version.

  11. I'd definitely love a fully mechanical instax mini, if its in the 250-300 range I feel it'll definitely pop off even from how niche instant photography is.
